Lane has always had a "passion" for catching bugs since he was a very little boy. He has a habit of going into the pantry, getting my plastic containers, taking them outside and filling them with rollie pollies aka pill bugs. Then he brings them inside without the lid on them and I freak out when I see them crawling around everywhere. His latest trend is to go outside and catch butterflies put the lid on to keep them from flying out and bringing them inside. Then he forgets about them and the next day they are obviously no longer flying because they are dead.

So... I had a little talk with him and told him that it was okay to catch butterflies but he just needed to babysit them for a while and then turn them loose. So yesterday he caught one and put a flower in the container for it to land on and gave it a Ritz cracker in case it got hungry. Late yesterday evening he let it go outside. When he came back in he said "Mom do you know why I let the butterfly go?" I said "No. Why?" He responded "God told me in my heart that I had to let it go and that I could catch it again tomorrow." I said "Well that is so sweet. You are a good animal rescuer." (That is what he wants to be when he grows up.) Kids are amazing and Lane never ceases to amaze me!
"See my beautiful butterfly!"
